welcome

Welcome to tongues of the ocean, an online poetry journal featuring words and writing from The Bahamas, the Caribbean and their diaspora.

We’re from The Bahamas, and we want first and foremost to celebrate The Bahamas and Bahamian writing in this journal. Because we affirm our Caribbeanness, we also celebrate Caribbean writing. Because we affirm our connection to the US mainland, we celebrate the writing of the American south-east. And because we recognize the diaspora of Caribbean peoples and their various origins, we celebrate the writing of the diaspora.

We recognize also that poetry takes more than one form. And so we accept the written word and the spoken word, and hope to feature them both equally.

We’re looking for new writing. Please study our submissions policy before sending us your best poems. If you think you have what we want, please send them to:
